  1. Are you boosting your Facebook posts for more ‘Thumbs ups’ and more post-engagements?

  2. What if you have posted a required post & boosted and later, you encounter you damn missed to add the correct link to a particular external website?

  3. Do you want to run your ad for extended time with more budget?

  4. Or, ‘To err is human’, what if you have written something incorrect to your post?

How frustrating it becomes when you discover that you have made a minor or some major typing error while writing a caption of your Facebook post and you cannot edit it anymore after hitting that big fat ‘Boost a Post’ button. Isn’t it?

At this stage, you can’t do not want to delete your post because it has gathered a lot of engagements till now. Then what to do?

When you simply put a post on your Facebook page and want to revise it before boosting, you just  click on those 3 dots on the upper right corner of your page post and click on the ‘Edit Post’ and save the changes as normal.

And, after boosting, you can, sometimes, just ‘View Edit History’ by again clicking on the same 3 dots.

But the ‘Edit Post’ link does not show up. So, that’s why we have curated a handbook to let you unlock the full potential of Facebook's boosted posts feature and take your social media game to new heights!

But, what is the difference between boosted posts and Facebook ads? Both are distinguishing from each other as the Boosted posts are not created in Facebook’s ‘Ads Manager’ as like Facebook ads and they don't share the same customisation features. So, let’s quickly go through the two.

Boosted Posts

Facebook Ads

It’s a post which is available on your Page’s timeline on which you can apply money to let it reach a particular audience.

These work like paid messages used to place on Facebook, by businesses.

When you boost a post, it will appear in your audience's Instagram/Facebook mobile and desktop News Feed as an ad. Facebook

Facebook Ads are visible on the target audience’s Facebook News Feed side ads, Messenger ads, Instagram Stories, Instant Articles and Audience Network.

This is an easier way to advertise on Facebook.

This is the exact way to advertise.

You can choose an already available post on your timeline and boost it.

You always create a new ad in the ‘Ads Manager’ or ‘Boost Again’ the previous ad

It optimises for Page likes, shares and comments or overall brand awareness

Can optimise for website/lead conversions, App Installs, shop orders, video views, and so on.

Apart from these, specific ad objectives, creative controls, and advanced targeting capabilities are all the features that are different from each other for these two. All in all, the boosted posts are still considered Facebook ads because to be shared with the target audience, they need a budget. This is the core similarity that it shares with Facebook ads.

Now, though, according to Facebook, you cannot make changes to a post when it has got boosted.

But, depending upon the nature of your requirement, here you will get to know how Facebook posts can be edited after boosting in different scenarios and that too, without losing your post-engagements. So, here you go!

Scenario 1: When you want to reach more audience

This is the case when you do not want to modify a text, image(s) or video of your page post but you want to target a larger audience even after you have once boosted that post. In that case, to edit your boosted post follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Facebook Page (Personal or Business Page)

  2. Click ‘Ad Center’ in the left-hand

  3. In the dropdown menu, choose ‘All Ads’

  4. Here, find the boosted post you want to modify and click on 3 horizontal dots

  5. Now, choose ‘Edit Ad’ to make your desired changes in any of the following:

    • Ad Creative

    • Audience

    • Daily Budget

    • Duration

    • Payment Method

  6. Do not forget to click ‘Save Changes’, when you are done.

Scenario 2: When You Encounter a Typo

When there’s a typing error and the ad has been boosted there are 3 ways that will help you how you can edit your boosted posts on Facebook:

Strategy 1: Detaching/Unlinking

Once you find the typing mistake in your caption or just want to rephrase a post that was promoted once or is still being promoted, do this:

  • Go to your Facebook Page

  • Open Ads Manager

  • Go to the ad level of the campaign for the ad, linked to the post that you want to modify.

  • Select the post for which this ad is serving (The post should not be attached to any other ad)

  • Refresh your Facebook page

  • Go to the same post and Voila!

  • You can now simply edit your post as usual

  • Now, go back into Ads Manager and relink the post and the ad!

With this “hack”, you can edit your post whenever you want to, without losing any data and/or insights!

Strategy 2: Deleting Ad

In this method, you will have to delete your ad. Stay clear that you are directed to ‘DELETE YOUR AD’ and NOT your post. For this, follow the below-mentioned:

  1. Go to your Facebook Page

  2. Scroll down to the desired post

  3. Click on ‘View Results’ of that post. (You can take screenshot of post’s performance with the previous boost, if you want)

  4. Click on on the upper right side of the post and click on ‘Delete Ad’

  1.  Refresh the page

  2. You will see that the ‘Edit Post’ link is available now. So, go ahead and make the changes

  3. Now, you can boost your post as per your requirement.

  4. Here, you will have to note that facebook will review your post and may or may not boost your post. Or, your post will directly be reboosted. (That is totally on to facebook)

Strategy 3: Editing without deleting the Ad or Post

This method will allow you to rework on the post without your Facebook ad or post deletion.

  1. Open your Facebook page

  2. Look for ‘Ad center’, on the left side of the page menu

  3. Find ‘All Ads’

  4. Click on ‘Ads Manager’

  5. Select your post you need to modify

  6. On the right side of the post. Select ‘Ad Creative’

  7. Click ‘Change Post’

  8. Select another post from the available posts (this should not have been used as Ad, now or then) and hit the ‘Publish’ button

  9. You will see, ‘Edit Post’ is now available. Make the desired changes and ‘Save’

  10. Refresh the Page. The latter post is updated now

  11. Again, follow all the steps from #2 but here at the step #8, you will have to select the previous post again that you earlier needed to update.

  12.  Refresh the page and you are done!

Pro Tip: Just take care of whatever you are posting online to avoid future mistakes and struggling to rectify, including when you are exploring "How to Edit Boosted Posts on Facebook” because not always, every option works for all persons.

But if, by chance, you have encountered a slip and want to edit the boosted post, apply the appropriate method from the above and get your problem resolved.

Perk: In the 2021 update of Facebook, you can use your normal post as an Ad, effectively harnessing "how social media can boost your business”.
